The Land of the Incas and Top 50 Restaurants in the World

  • Peru: Lima is one of the best food cities in the world

  • New Belmond Train

  • Foodie Tour: Join the Jaded Agent

  • September 18, 2018: 10 or 14 Day Itineraries

  • More dates available

Lima has three restaurants in the Top 50 Restaurants in the world. Belmond just started their Andean Explorer train service from Arequipa to Cusco in the fall of 2017. Think Orient Express (which they also own) only with newer cars, higher altitude, and trains with extra oxygen pumped in! Champagne anyone?  And this little place called Macchu Picchu… I have decided the only way to do more trips (and justify them to my wife) is to lead them so I am going to offer Peru this year, and Peru and India next. Or Peru and South Africa, or Peru and Chile, or Peru and anywhere! Peru is my favorite country in the world right now; it may be eclipsing Italy, and I don’t think we will tire of it any time soon. I am limiting the group to seven people and myself makes eight. I would take a group out with six, but to be accepted you need to write me a brief note as to why it would be great to have you along.

Date will be in April 2019 and open to any party of 6 TBA for 10 and 14 day: Itinerary Sample from September

BELMOND ANDEAN EXPLORER

One of the highest train journeys on Earth, exploring ancient kingdoms to natural wonders from sunrise to sunset and all through the night.

Launching in May 2017, Belmond Andean Explorer takes you to some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.

From Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire—traversing the highest plains of the Andes—to the reflective beauty of Lake Titicaca. Take the opportunity to explore the vast Colca Canyon then continue towards the city center of Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

An alternative itinerary can also be taken from Arequipa to Cusco in reverse.

"The journey by train becomes a moment to relax, rather than a stressful interlude between home and destination. Slow travel re-engineers time, transforming it into a commodity of abundance." -- Michael Williams, On The Slow Train

Top 50 restaurants  Central # 5  Maido #8   Astrid Y Gaston #33

When you have three in the top 50 there are a hundred trying to get there. Malabar is my favorite, La Mar (another Acurio Gaston restaurant), and Maras in the Westin where we will be staying in Lima.
